So what does it take to win a Senior Scratch Cup at the Grange? This question was posed to a respected member from the Grange as the golfers prepared for battle. The response: “Narrow tree lined fairways combined with slightly soft terrain requires good ball striking form the tee. But, the quick undulating greens require a confident putting stroke. I guess they must excel in all areas of the game to record a good score.” Using the par-68 layout – it was always going to be a tough day for Senior Scratch golfers.
Surprisingly, it was the visiting golfers seems to handle the conditions best – managing to occupy the top 11 places.
Top of the pile was the Blessington Lakes GC duo of Martin Maher and Lee McMillan. Both golfers shot solid rounds of 72 gross, with Martin edging his fellow member into second place on a back 9 countback.
3rd and 4th place went to an Asbourne GC duo of Adrian McManus and Andrew Boyle respectively. Both golfers much be heavily fancied when the TopGolfer Tour moves to their home course for the Ashbourne JSC on the 4th of August. One shot further back was Tiernan Lindsay from Fortwilliam GC. Prizes 1st to 4th can be collected from the office at the Grange GC.
CSS for the day was 71 (+3).
