Callaway Staffer of the Month for March – Pablo Larrazabal
Callaway has announced the signing of exciting Spanish player Pablo Larrazábal, a former Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year, to its team of Staff Professionals on the European Tour. Larrazábal (28) has been a consistent performer on the European Tour for a number of years but hit the headlines back in 2008 – his maiden year on the European Tour – when he won his first event, the Open de France ALSTOM, after coming through a 36-hole pre-qualifying event in Chantilly the previous week to beat Colin Montgomerie by four strokes – another new Callaway signing for 2012!

In the years preceding this headline-grabbing tournament, Pablo studied in the USA, finishing his final year of education in 2002, before returning to Spain with the intention of joining the professional ranks. However, Pablo’s father, Gustavo, encouraged him to join the family’s fish farming business to understand the value of money and hard work, and this delayed his arrival on Tour until 2004.

Commenting on becoming a Staff Professional, Pablo said: “Callaway is a brand I’ve been a fan of for some time and I have always been impressed by the quality of its products and have witnessed first hand some of its successes on tour over recent years. “This opportunity comes at an exciting time in my career and I’m already enjoying using some of the company’s 2012 products, including the RAZR Fit Driver, HEX Black Tour Golf Ball and RAZR Fit and RAZR X Black Fairway Woods.”

The 2011 season was a strong year for Pablo, winning the BMW International Open, taking runner-up spot in the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, Scotland, and claiming third in the Open de España, on his way to season-end prize-money of €1,183,040. Peter Harrison, Director of Tour Relations for Callaway said: “I remember Pablo exploding onto the European Tour in 2008 and have always admired the way he approaches the game. He has been a consistent performer for a number of years and I look forward to working with him through 2012 to bring him yet more success.”
